Just as in Tosca, the sacred and the secular coexist, and for me will characterise this November in Rome.
I start with a single performance of Tosca at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, a tribute to the reconstruction of the first Tosca staged on 14th January 1900 at the very same Teatro Costanzi. The Opera di Roma made the right decision in staging it originally, and in reviving it many times, considering its great success with the audience. Tosca is one of the symbols of Rome, for its music, for its majestic itinerary extending from Sant’Andrea della Valle through Palazzo Farnese to Castel Sant’Angelo, and for its ability to evoke Rome as it was in the early 1800s, already imbued with revolutionary sentiments. The performance will be broadcast live on 1st November at 8:15 p.m. CET on Rai 3, RaiPlay and worldwide.
On 10th November, I'm singing in Rossini's Stabat Mater in the Papal Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls, for the XXIV International Festival of Sacred Music and Art. In this case, I'm paying tribute to sacred music that inspires inner reflection in worshippers and others with its themes, and also to art, because the festival is a Fondazione Pro Musica e Arte Sacra project which, with our contribution, aims to promote and preserve those marvellous works of sacred art that are part of our world heritage. Art safeguards art. |
