My European debut as Madama Butterfly

From 16th June, I'm singing as Madama Butterfly at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, under the direction of conductor Roberto Abbado (with whom I'm working again after a splendid Verdi Requiem at the Parma Verdi Festival), and with stage direction by Àlex Ollé. I'm very happy to be back at the Teatro Costanzi with its marvellous orchestra and chorus, ideal for an optimal performance of this, one of the most perfect scores I can think of. I made my debut as Cio-cio-san last year at the New York Metropolitan, immersing myself in this fascinating character, a tragic heroine, who is deceived in love, unaware of her destiny as a temporary bride. As an artist and a woman, it's a fantastic opportunity to give the “bimba dagli occhi pieni di malia” who languishes for “un bene piccolino”, that great primordial, heart-breaking pride which will lead her to commit suicide.
