Between rehearsals for Tosca currently being staged at the Bayerische Staatsoper, I'll be back in Italy to take part in two special events organised by the Ministry of Culture to celebrate two anniversaries of which we, as Italians, are rightly proud: the recent addition of opera to the UNESCO World Heritage list and the centenary of the death of Giacomo Puccini.
The first will take place on Friday 7th June at 8:30 p.m. at the Arena di Verona with almost five hundred orchestra and chorus members from the major Italian opera theatres taking part, and with a special contribution by Maestro Riccardo Muti who will conduct overtures and choruses from Italian operas. I'm participating in the part of the evening devoted to singing and ballet, with marvellous, highly-acclaimed singers and dancers conducted by Maestro Francesco Ivan Ciampa, for a tribute to opera and its beauty and history with which we aim to enchant the audience at the amphitheatre and the millions of people watching the Rai TV worldwide broadcast.
On 28th June at 9:00 p.m., I'm singing in the concert entitled Puccini secondo Muti with Maestro Riccardo Muti conducting the Orchestra Cherubini on the twentieth anniversary of its foundation: one hundred and twenty musicians who will perform with us on a special stage in the iconic surroundings of the historic walls of Lucca. We'll be sharing the joy of celebrating our beloved Puccini in his birthplace: there will be three sopranos and three tenors, all chosen by Maestro Muti for a tribute both to his cherished creation, the Orchestra Cherubini, and because Maestro Muti only rarely conducts Puccini. This event will also be broadcast worldwide by Rai.
