After an absence of seven years from my schedule, I'm once again interpreting Elettra at my beloved Wiener Staatsoper, singing in a well-established, introspective production. As an opera, Idomeneo has a profound effect on me from both an artistic and a personal perspective. The music is sublime but also bold and experimental, as is the "percussive" vocalism of Elettra, this princess with a passionate, tormented personality. Every time I sing Mozart, I am enchanted by everything he teaches us about music and theatre, and by his always being in line with the times and the contemporary world.
I'll be on stage for the four performances scheduled on 16, 19, 23 and 25 January.
